About me:
I know what an honour it is to be part of someone’s special day: reading my own poems at both my brother’s and best friend's weddings, as well as having the privilege to drive some lovely friends on their wedding days.
When my dad died, I read at his funeral and shared some lovely memories, mostly from our childhood, to remind everyone of the Bernie we knew but also to make them laugh. The time he and a friend bought a Jersey cow on the way to a family beach day, is one of my favourite memories of the typically ‘Bernard’ things he did (much to my mum’s exasperation!) I wanted to make sure his funeral wasn’t a sad event but a celebration of all the things we loved about him.
At a friend’s funeral where the celebrant was terribly disappointing and seemed very underprepared, I knew I could have done a better job for both her and her family, which is when I started thinking about becoming a celebrant.
Reminiscing with my partner about these things, he reminded me: ‘You’ve always said you’d love to marry people and you love a wedding’ and he’s right! He suggested I put my big girl pants on and trained to be a celebrant and with his encouragement and my Dad in mind, here I am and here’s my lovely Dad!
Why choose me?
With a background in education, I’m well organised, good with people, articulate and like my Dad, who was an engaging public speaker, I too have that trait from him. I’m good at getting things done and as one of my lovely friends often tells me, I’m great at ‘all that wordy stuff’ (what she means is, I can put into words what she wants to say but can’t!)
I trained with the International College of Professional Celebrants: an immersive and thorough course, covering all areas of civil ceremonies.
Whether you’re saying hello, goodbye, I love you or I still love you, I will help you create a wonderful ceremony, just the way you want it. I will listen to what you’d like, where and when you’d like it and I will do my very best to make your day fabulous.
